Cobleskill- Henry "Hank" Bellinger Mattice, 94, of Cobleskill died on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at his residence where he loved living, in part because while there he led a song group.

He was born in Schenectady on July 30, 1918, the son of George and Elda (Noxon) Mattice and the brother of Mrs. Gerelda (Chris) Christman and Mrs. Beatrice (William) Call, all deceased.

Hank graduated from Cobleskill Central School in 1935 and, after a year of postgraduate training, entered Springfield College. He graduated with a BS in Physical Education in 1940, having represented the school on several intercollegiate athletic teams and served as Editor in Chief of the school newspaper. While in school, he married Kathryn Shafer of Cobleskill. To his death, he celebrated the College's contributions to his life.

His professional career spanned teaching positions in physical education at South Kortright Central School, Andes Central School, and Sewanaka High School in Floral Park, LI, all in New York State. His basketball team at Sewanaka High School played for the NYS championship. Following a stint with the US Army during World War II, and a partnership in Shafer and Mattice Plumbing and Heating in Cobleskill, he established Mattice Plumbing and Heating , "Bank on Hank" , in Cobleskill. Then in 1975 he moved with his companion, Irma Bouton to Ventura, CA, where he worked for the Bank of A. Levy from which he retired in 1982.

He then lived for 15 warm and full years in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico before moving back to Cobleskill in 2005.

He is survived by two sons: Jack Mattice of Patchogue, NY and Stephen Mattice; four daughters: Mrs. Jill (Richard) Clouthier of Penfield, NY, Mrs. Linda (John) Kodra, Mrs. Marilyn (Howard) Kellie of Cobleskill and Mrs. Lori (John) Van Deusen.

At his request, no memorial or funeral services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the The Community Library, PO Box 219, Cobleskill, NY 12043, which supplied him with many hours of pleasure.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh.
