Broome- Barbara D. Porter, 71, of Stone Store Rd., died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at her daughter's home in Gilboa.

Born June 3, 1941 in Middleburgh, she was a daughter of Harley and Jennie (Slater) Schrom.

Barbara was a lifelong area resident and retired after many years of employment at Stiefel Laboratory in East Durham. Following retirement, she was a house sitter for NYS Center for Disabilities.

She had several hobbies which include making baby blankets, bird watching, in particular hummingbirds, collecting Indian items, playing the lottery and visiting casinos.

She was predeceased by a son, Timmy Porter and two grandchildren: Tristin Miller and Robert G. Porter, Jr.

Survivors include her four children: Tina (Robert) McKissick of Franklin, Jennifer (John) Warner of Gilboa, Howard Porter (Mark George)of Greenville, TX, and Robert (Colleen) Porter of Central Bridge; three sisters: Olive Smigiel of Middleburgh, Florence Wescott of W. VA, and Mildred Earles of Gloversville; a brother: George Schrom of Nevada; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Blenheim United Methodist Church on State Route 30, with Rev. Neil Irwin officiating. There will be no calling hours and inurnment will be private.
